Vehicle Where At Facility (VWF)

Vehicle Where At Facility (VWF) is one of the types that OpenTravel Alliance (OTA) uses in their open specifications. The purpose of these specifications is to standardise the information flow in the travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors.

VWF defines the information that is needed to describe where and how the pick-up process takes place. For example, car rental branches use this type to indicate their location, such as being located in an airport, railway station, or terminal. Or in the case of “shuttle off airport”, the customer needs to catch a shuttle and drive off the airport grounds to arrive at the rental desk. OTA’s VWF code list assigns a specific code to every one of the location indicators. These codes can then be used to exchange data through APIs between, for example, a supplier and a broker.

Car Rental Gateway uses OTA’s VWF and other code lists to unify suppliers’ data in its system. This means that on a car rental broker’s website, the same terminology and even translations are used for all the offers regardless of the supplier. The customers can easily compare the offers of different suppliers and choose the one that best suits their needs.
